Now in its fifth year, Cleveland Botanical Garden’s day-long Sustainability Symposium has become one of our area’s most significant sustainability events. Full of useful information for home gardeners and conservationists of all stripes, the symposium’s compelling premise is that a passion for good gardening goes hand-in-hand with sound ecological choices.
Each year, the symposium features a nationally renowned expert. In 2010, we’re thrilled to host Joe Lamp’l, the nationally known sustainable gardening expert and host of PBS television’s GardenSMART. “Ironically,” Lamp’l says, “gardeners and weekend warriors often create beautiful gardens that waste water, use chemicals that run off into waterways, remove beneficial insects and emit greenhouse gasses into the air.” In his keynote address, Lamp’l will present his “seven significant concepts” that can make our gardens and communities greener while protecting the planet. He will discuss ideas presented in his latest book, The Green Gardener’s Guide: Simple, Significant Actions to Protect & Preserve our Planet.
You’ll also receive valuable insights from other experts that you can take home and put to work in your own backyard.
You will learn:
- How to make your garden and community greener while protecting natural resources

Keynote Speaker:
Joe Lamp'l, Host of PBS Television's GardenSMART
Greening Your Garden While Protecting the Planet
This presentation is based on Joe’s popular book, "The Green Gardener’s Guide; Simple Significant Actions to Protect and Preserve our Planet". Gardeners enjoy a connection with the earth unlike anyone else. Ironically, as we create and maintain beautiful gardens and landscapes, many unknowingly are doing so in a way that is harmful to our environment. Joe will entertain and stimulate your thinking in new ways as he shares seven significant concepts we all can do right now to make our gardens and community 'greener' while protecting the planet too.
