Green Corps cultivates nearly 3.5 acres of land in six urban Cleveland neighborhoods. Our six farms vary widely in size and personality, but all function as farm, classroom, community space, research lab, and urban wildlife habitat.
To be better teachers, neighbors, and stewards, Green Corps uses only organic gardening practices. Our farms are experimenting with a variety of growing methods to learn how to grow the maximum amount of healthy food in our small urban spaces. One such method is “lasagna” farming. Layering of organic materials, many of which would be headed to the landfill, creates a fertile growing bed—even on hard-pan soil or asphalt!
Our highly fertile farms are intensively planted with fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. With bright zinnias, juicy tomatoes, and fragrant basil thriving in the middle of the city, it is no wonder the farms attract bees, butterflies, birds, children, and neighbors! We invite you to stop by as well!
