Home to plants and animals found nowhere else on earth, Madagascar has been dubbed by some ecologists as the “eighth continent” of the world. Step into our Glasshouse and be transported more than 9,000 miles to this remarkable island off the coast of Africa.  Walk through the spiny desert and you’ll feel as if you’ve entered a surreal world where the ordinary is nothing short of extraordinary. 

Amidst a bizarre landscape that looks as if it were designed by Dr. Seuss, discover a world-class collection of endangered plants and encounter a fascinating array of animals, including an Oustalet's chameleon, a yellow-throated plated lizard and a radiated tortoise. 

Visit the Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse at Cleveland Botanical Garden and you can experience this dry and distant land without leaving Cleveland.
