Enough snow already, bring on spring

V2V project sites have been hibernating for a few months, but spring is just around the corner! The Vacant to Vibrant team is busy churning up plans for an eventful season after the thaw. Here’s what’s in store:

In Gary…

  • 2 houses were demolished in the fall under the Federal Hardest Hit program.
  • with the vacant houses gone, construction on all 3 sites will commence this spring.
  • Green Gary Day will be celebrated on April 25th!
  • the 5x5 program will continue to give a resident voice and hand in their own neighborhood revitalization.

In Cleveland…

  • finishing touches such as benches and play equipment will finalize installations soon.
  • a Ribbon Cutting event later this spring will kick-off the sites and officially open them for resident use.
  • a work or programming day involving painting, planting, clean-up or playing will further extend an invitation for residents to make productive use of their new neighborhood assets.
  • come visit us at the Cleveland Botanical Garden table at Earth Fest on April 19th!

In Buffalo…

  • 2 of 3 installations were completed in the fall. The final site on Lawrence Place next to the park will be completed in July.
  • we will get a chance to celebrate the completion of V2V sites at PUSH’s annual summer party.
  • neighborhood and park clean-ups are being planned to bring both resident pride and service to the community.

In all cities, permanent information signs will be installed once the ground is no longer frozen. They will provide a visual overview of the green infrastructure and community benefits that the sites were designed for. Code of conduct and hours signs will also be installed where applicable.

We hope you’re staying warm this winter and looking forward to what spring will bring. Please feel free to call or send an email if you have any questions, concerns or ideas for the project and upcoming events. We would love to hear from you, your feedback is always appreciated!
