Volunteering for Special Events

Great for teen volunteers, groups, families or those just looking to help out periodically, our annual or one-time special events provide hundreds of volunteer opportunities for those interested in getting a “taste” of volunteering here at the Garden.  We are currently recruiting volunteers for Glow, Cleveland Botanical Garden's winter spectacular and one of Cleveland's most celebrated holiday traditions. Glow transports our guests to a world full of seasonal cheer, where all-new wonders and returning traditions await.

Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the magic happen at this annual event, and families, groups, and student volunteers (age 15+) are welcome! Descriptions of this year’s Glow volunteer opportunities are below. GLOW 2018 VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

GUEST GREETER - Greeters help with welcoming guests, providing directions and maps, and offering to take photos of families in front of our giant holiday tree. Guest Greeters need to be friendly, comfortable with initiating conversation, knowledgeable about the Botanical Garden campus, and able to stand for extended periods.

EVERGREEN ADVENTURES CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY ASSISTANT* - Evergreen Adventures is woodland-themed place for children to learn and play during Glow. Activity Assistants engage children and families through creating crafts, sharing books and stories, and exploring creative and interactive displays.

HERSHEY CHILDREN’S GARDEN OUTDOOR ACTIVITY ASSISTANT – New this year, our Hershey Children’s Garden will be open to guests on select dates during Glow! Volunteers who enjoy being outside are needed for short shifts as Activity Assistants to help with “Cocoa and Storytime,” making s’mores, and assisting with outdoor crafts and activities.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP ASSISTANT* -– Volunteers help families and children create their own delightful gingerbread houses to take home for display--or enjoy eating outside with some yummy hot cocoa on our beautifully lit Terrace!

SPECIAL EVENT POSITIONS – Glow features a number of special events and special days that make the Glow experience even more exciting for our guests! These include our Breakfast with Santa events, Holiday CircleFest, Members Nights, Sensory and Mobility Friendly Days, Munchkins & Mimosas, and more!

GLOW SET-UP AND TEAR-DOWN* – It takes a village to create Glow Village! Starting in November, individuals and groups can make the magic happen by helping us string miles of holiday lights, set up Gingerbread displays, organize and prepare children’s crafts and activities, and more! In January, join us for the after-party as we dismantle decorations, sort lights, organize supplies, clean up and put everything away until next year. A fun and community-building volunteer opportunity for groups and families with teens ages 15 and up. Set-up/tear-down volunteers may need to walk, lift up to 50 pounds, bend/stoop, use basic tools, and work outside.

* In addition to adult volunteers, we will also accept teen volunteers ages 15 and up in these positions.
