Volunteers typically help in three major capacities: Education, Horticulture, and Operations. Please review the complete list below.

Education Volunteer Positions

Glasshouse Interpreter Docent – Enhance visitor’s experience by facilitating their interaction with the plants and animals of our two biomes, Madagascar and Costa Rica.

Group/Public Tour Guide Docent – Serve as an ambassador to the Garden by hosting groups from all over and provide informative tours.

Green Corps Volunteer Crew - Green thumbs interested in making Cleveland a healthier and more sustainable community are invited to work alongside Green Corps youth and Crew Leaders. More information available here

Hershey Children’s Garden Volunteer* – Facilitate learning through play by assisting with interactive programming and visitor assistance; some garden maintenance may be included. 

Library Aide – Assist librarian with general shelving and shifting of books, and special projects including labeling, cataloguing, and archives.

School Group Volunteer – Deliver quality programs to grades pre-k through 12 during planned school visits.

Horticulture Volunteer Positions

Animal Care Volunteer – Befriend and assist with the daily care of exotic animals and insects from Madagascar and Costa Rica.

Garden Plant Care Assistant – Help keep our urban gem spectacular by assisting the horticulture staff with the daily activities and gardening procedures throughout the grounds.

Glasshouse Horticulture Volunteer – Create a wondrous no-travel trip to Madagascar and Costa Rica for our guests by assisting with all aspects of plant care in our two biomes. 

Operations Volunteer Positions

Retail Support Volunteer* – Serve amongst the most beautiful botanic inspired gifts for home, garden, and bath by assisting with various support operations in our Garden Store.

Visitor Services Representative* – Ignite excitement and wonder for guests by serving as greeter and ambassador to the Garden. 

Public Programs Volunteer – Make plants and horticulture interesting, fun, and relatable to the public by assisting with a variety of public programming opportunities at the Garden and offsite. 

Office Support Volunteer – Support the Garden’s mission virtually or onsite by assisting with daily administrative tasks and special projects.

* In addition to adult volunteers, we will also accept teen volunteers in these positions.
